Our mission is to be a Great Commission church that ministers
across the spectrum of world need. Jesus told His disciples that they
would be empowered by the Holy Spirit to be "witnesses" or
"testimonies" to Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends
of the earth. This was not a chronological/geographical order, first
Jerusalem and then Judea, etc. Christ was telling the apostles that
the Spirit would enable them to minister all across this great continuum
of need at the same time, either personally or through ministry partners.
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit
comes on you;
and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and
Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
Acts 1:8
It is our direct responsibility and priority to reach our Jerusalem
and Judea (those who are near and dear to us) in the
Hockessin/Pike Creek area. Through participation in the JESUS
Film project, we were able to put a JESUS Film DVD in every home
in Hockessin. Art Camp, VBS and other outreach ministries are initiatives
we have taken to reach those nearby.
For us, Samaria might be ministry in downtown Wilmington
with those who are "close by but far off" in terms of life
style and experience. We minister to these through partnerships with
Ty and Brandy McMillan and City
Impact Ministries, Sunday
Breakfast Mission and Door of Hope.
Since we are not omnipresent and unable to be everywhere, we send
out workers to reach the "ends of the earth"
like Larry and Karen Wolters, and our sent ones who minister in creative
access countries. These are "out of sight, but NOT out of mind."
Through regular prayer, support and visits, we hold them up as our proxy
partners in the fulfillment of the Great Commission.
